Twisted Spoke

My twisted take on the world of pro bike racing.

Burning Man housing. Bike as bungalow.

Sell your house, ditch the morgage.

Sell your house, ditch the mortgage.

Yet another beautiful answer to the question, why do we love bikes? So we can tow our cool little designer homes around. Paul Welkins designed this micro-casa for the Burning Man Festival.

Perhaps you’ve heard of Burning Man, that insane art party, music bash, raving lunatics in the desert running around with body paint and home-cooked hallucinogenics event. Yeah, that festival. The one Sarah Palin can’t wait to check out.

Once a year creative people show the world how to live without conformity, mortgages, thick rule books, underwear and any stated career path. The art is astounding, the music is incredible and there’s a ton of dust. The dust is part of the paradigm shift,

It’s sort of a Hunter-Thompsony, Charles Manson without the murders, deadheads in the desert vibe. But we digress again. Look at the genius of this portable home.

It weighs only 100 pounds. Inside there’s a folding bed, table, clever storage, a tiny kitchen, ventilation system and washroom. And you can tow the whole micro-casa,  with your old Specialized Stumpjumper or $5000 Pinarello Prince.

In this collapsed economy, foreclosure world, this is the future. Your house hitched to your bike. Only question left is, where does the bunk-bed for the kids go? That might take some further thinking. Maybe Burning Man 2010.
